Way Down – Duo CD with Dave Blenkhorn

LEROY JONES:
“More often what usually comes to mind when you think of a jazz duo, is a combination
of voice with instrumental accompaniment. Although at the end of the tracks, within this delightful selection of various interpretations, an unpretentious vocal is rendered by guitarist David Blenkhorn. This collaboration between guitar and contra-bassist Sebastien Girardot delivers a fresh, captivating selection of songs that epitomize musical intimacy.
The disc opens with a fresh arrangement on an old spiritual and mainstay within the tradi- tional jazz repertoire, Just A Closer Walk With Thee. Beginning with a rubato intro, guitar and arco bass, they dance into a jubilant stroll establishing a de nitive tempo in 3⁄4 time. With bass switching to pizzicato, a bass line and strong groove is maintained throughout, allowing the guitar to embellish on the melody, expanding rhythmically and harmonically to a climax, with the theme being stated once again, exiting the way they entered and nally vamping out, a tempo, this time with the jaunty bass line being established by the guitar.
I could go on and on about how nice this recording turned out. But when music is great, there’s really no room for criticism. Simply a smile of joy is an appropriate riposte. Finally, I thought it was necessary to set the mood with a detailed description of the opening track, which in my opinion gives a clear expectation of what is yet to come. Besides, there should be some space left for words from someone else who enjoys this recording as much as I do. Well done, my gifted brothers!”

Uros Peric – Ray Charles Tribute

In 2004 grieved by the death of his principal influence Ray Charles, UROS PERIC, a young solvenian singer, pianist and composer, decides to dedicate his career to the music of his idol.

Having recorded 12 albums and touring relentlessly thought the world with guests such as Sheila Raye Charles or with a selection of Ray’s sidemen, trumpettist David Hoffman or original raylette Renee Collins Georges.

Over the last few years Uros’ has found enthusiastic success with the French audiences, which has been gained by the emotional intensity of his performances and his selection of “first call” sidemen, the guitarist David Blenkhorn, Double Bassist Sébastien Girardot, Drummer Guillaume Nouaux and tenor saxophonist Drew Davies.

Uros accompanied by these same musicians and the trio of slovenian backing singers known as the Pearlettes, decided to take the success of the stage to the studio and record a selection of songs chosen from Ray’s repertoire, from blues to rhythm ‘n’ blues, and from soulful ballad to country and western, the only outsider to Ray’s music is the track “A day in May” composed by Uros Peric which in the tradition of Ray Charles has a Nat King Cole vibe.

Uros Peric brings Ray Charles back into the spotlight and is considered by the Ray Charles Foundation as the best current representative in the world!
